MoreUW-Green Bay leads Great Lakes study with EPA grant The Environmental Protection Agency and UW-Green Bay Prof. David Dolan don’t want Green Bay—or any of the Great Lakes for that matter—getting too green. To help control future algae blooms and excessive weed growth, the EPA wants to analyze the phosphorus loading levels of the Great Lakes. Dolan received a $285,463 grant from the EPA recently to head the project titled “Great Lakes Total Phosphorus Models and Loads: A Fifteen Year Update.”

Grants help UW-Green Bay students study Northeastern Wisconsin natural areasFour UW-Green Bay students will receive grants from the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity to support research projects — from earthworms to owls — on UW-Green Bay’s managed natural areas. The students will conduct field projects in collaboration with a UW-Green Bay faculty member and will present their results at an annual research symposium. MoreProfessor, project win support for bedrock research below Brown County A UW-Green Bay faculty member is principal investigator for a project expected to yield better maps of the bedrock beneath Brown County along with valuable data on groundwater and other resources. Prof. John Luczaj leads the team that is receiving a total of $109,000 in first-year support to extend statewide mapping being done as part of the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey. Grant to help sustain UW-Green Bay's First Year SeminarThe University of Wisconsin System's Office of Professional and Instructional Development awarded UW-Green Bay a $37,910 grant to help sustain the University's First Year Seminar Program. Based on positive results and student success, the program has expanded to include 15 freshman seminars for the fall of 2008. A student-led initiative has led the Green Bay Transit Commission to approve a pilot program-called U-Pass-that would give students free rides just by showing a campus ID. founder of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Chancellor Emeritus
Edward Weidner, passed away in June 2007 at the age of 85. Weidner was
the first employee of the new university in 1966 when he was appointed
chancellor, a post he held for 20 years in guiding development of today's
modern campus. Tributes and remembrances from UW-Green Bay's far-flung
