The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Chancellor Search and Screen Committee has launched a Web site dedicated to the latest information regarding the search for the University’s fifth chancellor. Interest in the new partnership between Nicolet College and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has soared in recent weeks. More than 20 Northwoods residents have taken advantage of a program that lets place-bound working adults earn a bachelor’s degree closer to home. More

Small Business Development Center offers training session for entrepreneurs

A program designed to help entrepreneurs prepare a business plan for better management, or to apply for financing, will be offered in Green Bay starting Wednesday, Sept. 17. The Entrepreneurship Training Program hosted by the UW-Green Bay Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is a comprehensive series of classes and individual coaching designed to help entrepreneurs refine their business concept and attract financing. UW-Green Bay leads Great Lakes study with EPA grant

Prof David Dolan.The Environmental Protection Agency and UW-Green Bay Prof. David Dolan don’t want Green Bay—or any of the Great Lakes for that matter—getting too green. To help control future algae blooms and excessive weed growth, the EPA wants to analyze the phosphorus loading levels of the Great Lakes. Dolan received a $285,463 grant from the EPA recently to head the project titled “Great Lakes Total Phosphorus Models and Loads: A Fifteen Year Update.” More

Grants help UW-Green Bay students study Northeastern Wisconsin natural areas

Four UW-Green Bay students will receive grants from the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity to support research projects — from earthworms to owls — on UW-Green Bay’s managed natural areas. The students will conduct field projects in collaboration with a UW-Green Bay faculty member and will present their results at an annual research symposium. More

Professor, project win support for bedrock research below Brown County

Prof John Luczaj.A UW-Green Bay faculty member is principal investigator for a project expected to yield better maps of the bedrock beneath Brown County along with valuable data on groundwater and other resources. Prof. John Luczaj leads the team that is receiving a total of $109,000 in first-year support to extend statewide mapping being done as part of the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey. Grant to help sustain UW-Green Bay's First Year Seminar

The University of Wisconsin System's Office of Professional and Instructional Development awarded UW-Green Bay a $37,910 grant to help sustain the University's First Year Seminar Program. Based on positive results and student success, the program has expanded to include 15 freshman seminars for the fall of 2008. More

Major donations marked for Phuture Phoenix scholarships

Three major donations to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Phuture Phoenix program were announced Wednesday (June 11) at a parting reception hosted by outgoing Chancellor Bruce Shepard and his wife Cyndie. Local philanthropist Irene ‘Billie’ Daniell Kress has made the first leadership gift to a $5 million scholarship fund earmarked for the Phuture Phoenix program. More

UW-Green Bay, city to offer U-Pass bus service for students

A partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Green Bay Metro will soon allow students to ride city buses to and from campus and anywhere in between for free. A student-led initiative has led the Green Bay Transit Commission to approve a pilot program-called U-Pass-that would give students free rides just by showing a campus ID. The U-Pass program will run July 1 through June 30. Faculty and staff can also ride with U-Pass. More

Weidner page continues to accept tributes

Chancellor Emeritus Edward Weidner.The founder of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Chancellor Emeritus Edward Weidner, passed away in June 2007 at the age of 85. Weidner was the first employee of the new university in 1966 when he was appointed chancellor, a post he held for 20 years in guiding development of today's modern campus. Tributes and remembrances from UW-Green Bay's far-flung alumni base continue to be accepted.
